Today I finally collect your ashes.
It has taken me months.
.
I have
no doubt about it
been putting it off.
.
Now I have them
I am confronted with what remains of your physical form
packed tight and wrapped in paper
like fish and chips
and heavy rocks.
.
They come in a box
in a bag
with draw string handles.
.
Thank you
I tell the undertaker
as I step from their parlour
out into the high street
holding this present bag
with what must seem like a strange mixture
of care and casualness.
.
I have no idea what to do next.
